Last Will and Testament of John Meisser, Senior

John Meisser, Senior, is my 3x great grandfather.  He was born in Switzerland about 1799 and died in Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin on February 18, 1889 (over 30 years after he wrote the will below).

I obtained the following copy from the Sauk County (Wisconsin) Historical Society (my transcription follows):

My Transcription:

Last will and Testament of John Meisser, sen. of the Town of Prairie du Sac, in the county of Sauk and State of Wisconsin.

I, John Meisser of the town of Prairie du Sac in the County of Sauk and State of Wisconsin being of full age, and of sound disposing mind, memory and understanding, blessed be Almighty God for the same, do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following: that is to say,

First.  I will and direct, that the expenses of my funeral, and all my just debts be fully paid out of my personal estate, as soon as may be after my decease.

Secondly, I hereby give, devise and bequeath unto my beloved wife Catharine Meisser, the sole use, interest occupation and benefit of all my personal and Real Estate, during the term of her natural life. – After her death, Thirdly, I, hereby give, devise and bequeath unto the minor children of my Son John Meisser deceased; John Meisser and Anna Meisser, the sum of Six hundred dollars to each or both of them together if alive. And the Ballance of my Real and personal Estate shall be equally divided among my Six children or their heirs the above named minors not excepted

Fourthly, I hereby appoint my son Martin Meisser of the town of Troy executor of this my last will and testament; and do further authorize my said son Martin to sell all my real Estate, if my wife wishes him to do so after my decease.

I hereby revoke all former wills by me made.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal, this fourth (4) day of September A. D. 1868

The above instrument consisting of one sheet, was now here signed and sealed by John Meisser, the testator, in the presence of each of us; and was at the same time published and declared by him to be his last will and testament; and we at his request and in his presence have severally subscribed our names hereto as attesting witnesses.
